I paid thousands of dollars to two different states but live in Nevada where there is no state tax. Why dont i get a large portion of that money as a refund?

Money that you earn in another state is subject to tax by that state. The fact that you live in a state that has no income tax doesn't change that. You have to pay the tax to the state where you earned the income.
