did you have any income from California sources?     If not, I would call the FTB at number in notice and explain the situation.    without income there can be no California income tax (unless you rent out that California home).  By calling maybe you can get out of filing which will save you the trouble of having to then file for 2017 and 2018 and alll future years which is a real pain and costly when you'll end up owing zilch.
