It depends. To clarify, what is it that you are allocating? Are you making these allocations because you need to allocate income between two states?

I work in two states, my wife works in one. Missouri wants to allocate the adjustment amount between us. I guess I just don’t understand where they came up with the amount of $2500, is it a standard amount? If so, how do I figure out how much was mine vs hers?

Use each of your own Missouri (MO). You can allocate by taking the Missouri wages by the total wages for the year.  This will provide a percentage that can be used to prorate the deduction. For more information you can use the link below.
