Several states do not have a state income tax. So these states will not show up in certain drop down lists. Leave boxes 15, 16, and 17 blank when you enter a W-2 for these states.
Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming
If your state does not have a state income income tax, such as TN, your state code will not be an option in your W2 entries. The state ID number in box 15 does not affect the calculations on your tax returns, however it may affect proper e-filing. Assuming there is no other information in boxes 17 or 19 for the state line on your W2 then you can delete the line and/or blank out (delete/backspace several times) boxes 15-20 in TurboTax for that state line.
If there is another state line on your W2 you should make those entries in TurboTax.
