I’m currently an IN resident. during half of 2019 I was a student in IL. My IN tax return was filed, but my IL return is rejected since I don’t have an ID from the state.

Unfortunately, Illinois has very strict requirements for efiling- if this is your first time and do not have an Illinois ID, you must mail it in,

I filed in 2017 and 2018 as well for the state of IL and was never asked to provide a PIN. That’s why I am confused

As long as I can remember, Il always had a eight-digit pin filing number requirement to submit an Ill. return electronically. If you have successfully filed an Illinois return in a prior year, visit IL-PIN inquiry or call 800-732-8866 to see if an IL-PIN has been issued to you.
