That is correct. Minnesota law is that if you file a joint federal return, you must file a joint Minnesota return. Although you are correct in filing a part-year Wisconsin return, Minnesota will tax all of your income, so you must claim a credit for taxes paid to other states. In the Minnesota return, you can enter this on the three screens seen below. If TurboTax does not carry-over the Wisconsin amount, you will have to manually enter the amount of income you made in Wisconsin, and the Wisconsin tax withheld minus any Wisconsin refund. This tax credit will subtract the tax that Minnesota would put on this same income, and allow both of you to claim any tax credits allowable by Minnesota to full-year Minnesota residents.
