I live in Washington state but my employer is based in California. They do not have payroll processing for washington state so they have been taking some taxes out of my paycheck. Do i need to file state taxes in california?

If you were not a resident of CA at anytime in 2016 and did not earn any money in California, then you would need to file a Non-Resident CA return to get a refund of those monies withheld.

You can file that Non-resident return by following the directions in the FAQ below:
