I live in India. Can I file Turbotax from an overseas address? Amazon's Turbotax is available only to customers located in the United States. How should I file?

Using the TurboTax online or desktop CD/Download editions you can e-file a tax return from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.  Or you can print and mail the tax return.

What might have you confused is that you need a U.S. bank account if you want direct deposit for your refund.  The IRS will not make a direct deposit to a foreign bank.  If you do not have a U.S. bank account they will only mail you a check which you must deposit/cash in your country.

Thanks. II do have a USA bank and the filing went well last year. I guess I'm confused because Amazon turbotax premium webpage says that it is only for use in the USA. So I'm thinking to use intuit's turbotax online and not download it. Does that make sense?

@douglasrexford-g You can use online or desktop  (CD/download) software from anywhere in the world that has internet access.  I think you are misinterpreting the amazon site that says the software provides U.S. based support.   That does not mean you have to BE in the U.S. to use the software on your computer.  However, you would not be able to call in for customer support from another country.  You can always post questions here in the user forum, though.

I get this message when I try to buy turbotax from amazon, because I reside in India this year: 

"This item is not available for purchase due to geographical restrictions." I hope that I won't have this problem if I order direct from Intuit.com. I wonder if I should file online or use the download software???

Yes, you can file a federal return if you have a non-U.S. address.  However, there are some restrictions, which you can read about in the following Help Article:  Can I e-file with a foreign address? - Intuit.

Purchasing TurboTax Online or the TurboTax Download (as opposed to the CD)  are the easiest options for using TurboTax while in a foreign country.

To purchase the TurboTax Download:

1. Visit https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/
2. Select "Buy now" under the product that works best for you.
3. A pop-up box will appear
4. Select either PC/Windows or Macintosh
