I am exempt from FICA since I am a full-time graduate student at a university. However, my employer withheld FICA taxes. What should I do?

First, make certain that you qualify for FICA exemption. If you meet the qualifications, then contact the employer and request the refund.

Lastly, if you meet the qualifications for exemption and the employer refuses to refund FICA taxes, you can file Form 843 to request a refund.
