I am being forced to complete a KS state tax return even though neither my wife nor I lived there in 2016, and neither of us made money there in 2016. How do I fix this?

I am military stationed overseas.  I am a resident of Washington state, which does not require state taxes.

Since you are active military, in the Personal Info section for your name you should have indicated that Washington is your resident state.  You should also have indicated that you did Not live in any other states.  If your military pay is your only income you should have indicated that you did Not earn money in any other states.

Also review your spouse's personal information which should be the same as yours for resident state, living in another state and income in another state (if that is correct for your spouse)

My info matches the above.  My wife, however, does not have the same state of residence as me as she has never lived in Washington...I had to select "Foreign" for her state of resident state since we live abroad, since she does not qualify for MSSRA due to that.  In any case, Kansas is nowhere on the return, but it still pops up under the review when I go to file, and I get locked in a loop when I try to eFile.

Okay...Back in the Personal Info section scroll down to 'Other state income' and make sure it indicates 'None'.  If not edit that section.
