I am an international student on F1 visa. I live in NY but did a 3 month paid internship in California. Do I owe New York state tax even though I made no money in NY?

Since you are an F1 visa student, you will be filing as a US nonresident using Form 1040NR.  We invite you to utilize the services of our partners at Sprintax, who can assist you with both your required Federal and State filings.  This link will take you to their website for further assistance:  Visit the TurboTax/Sprintax site

Have you been in the United States for at least 5 years on F1?
