You must file as a nonresident. Whether you owe taxes on this will depend on many things. Complete the Ohio TurboTax as a non-resident. If you owe nothing, you do not need to file.

Every nonresident having Ohio-sourced income must file. Nonresidents who earn or receive income within Ohio will be able to claim the nonresident credit with respect to all items of income not earned and not received in Ohio.

Who must file in Ohio:

Complete Ohio instructions:

Thank you for this answer, however turbotax did not supply me with the Ohio required IT NRC form (nonresident credit), nor did turbotax subtract out the Ohio income from the rest of my income. Turbotax calculated that I owe zero Ohio tax (which would be fine if true), but everything I read says I will owe on the Ohio portion, and I am filing to get a refund of money withheld and sent to Ohio by the trustee.

Give me a little time to try it in the Ohio return.

You will need to allocate your Ohio income in the interview process. There was not a spot for exactly your income, but put in under wages. I trust you entered the taxes paid to Ohio. Was this entered on a 1099-Misc? I am still searching for the credit.

Yes, I did put in the taxes paid to Ohio. You are right there was not a spot for the Ohio income. I will go in and try your suggestion, but the Ohio income is on a K-1 trust, not in wages. Thank you.

The credit is automatically done. It starts on Form IT NRC which flows to Schedule of Credits which flows to the IT1040. So you have a K1 where this was entered from? I will have to try that.

My turbo tax ohio forms don't include the IT NRC form. The K-1 information was entered during the Federal interview. After the federal interview was completed I first added the state of ohio, there was never an oportunity to adjust what my ohio portion of income. Everything just flowed from the Federal return/interview.

What box did you enter the income?

Hi cindyH, I am sorry I am taking up your Sunday afternoon. I entered the K-1 income in the Federal K-1 interview. Now that I am back in the Ohio state return trying I put the k-1 trust income into the Pass through entity, but that can't be right since it added twice the k-1 income (once by the flow of the federal return and now once through this pass through entity.) I am not sure now where to put this income

In what boxes did you enter the income and the OH taxes?

The Ohio taxes will be taken as a credit in Maryland.

You need to complete the nonresident state first, then your resident state.

I had placed the income in the Ohio return under Pass-through entity addback. I did do the Ohio return before the Maryland return.
