I'm looking for help in responding to a request for back taxes. I never changed my drivers license, voter registration, or car registration to VA. I did have a lease in VA and have requested it from my landlord, but have not heard back, and the response is due next week. I did file state tax return in VA but NC and VA do not have reciprocity for state income tax. Again, to clarify, i was living and working in VA for the year 2013. I filed state taxes for VA as well as federal. NC is saying i owe severl thousand dollars due to not filing a state tax return for the year 2013. Do i have any recourse being that i lived and worked in VA? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Since you didn't relinquish your NC residency you will probably have to file an NC return to satisfy them however, you will get credit for the VA taxes paid which should net out to close to zero.
Always change your ID when you move ... it is a rule on your DL to do so within a set period of time usually in the 2 week period time frame.
