How do I file state taxes for 2 states? I worked in MN and WI last year but it looks like WI is trying to tax me for the whole year not the month I was there?

I did receive 2 W-2s from my employer. I entered both of them but it is still calculating as though I made all my money in WI. I was a resident of MN all last year and just there for 1 month to help out. The amount currently showing to be due is almost what I made there that month.

You have several possible issues:

1)  WI Non-resident forms are not scheduled to be ready until on/after 13 Feb of 2025

2)  When the WI forms are finally ready in the software:

.....2a)  , you must have the Federal forms FULLY filled in with every scrap of income deductions & credits......Essentially complete  (and preferably not e-filed yet)

....then

...2b) when the WI forms are ready, you must go thru the WI interview to assign which $$ are WI-taxable income and which are not.  Until that is done in the interview, the WI forms assume all your oncome is WI-taxable.....but like I said, you don't do that until ALL your Federal forms are fully filled in.

3)  you do NOT prepare or e-file the MN forms until AFTER the WI non-resident tax section is fully filled in first.  That is because MN will give you a credit for the taxes you had to pay to WI....and you/software won't know that until the final WI forms are ready in Feb, and you've then gone thru the WI income allocations.
