Hello, I am a resident of VA after moving from MD in 2017. I recently received a notice from VA asking for a copy of my MD 2016 return. Is VA overstepping?

Since you filed a 2017 VA return they are curious if you also should have filed a 2016 return ... give them what they want to shut them up.
