Have to file PA taxes for 3 days

I lived in IN for all of 2021, but moved back to PA and changed my residency on 12/28/21. I now have to file taxes for part-time PA residency, but it’s asking me for a Schedule G-L and I have no clue what that is or where to find it.

The company I work for is located in IN.

If anyone knows what I should do, that’d be great!

Have to file PA taxes for 3 days

You do not have to file a return for PA since you moved the last few days of the year.  File a full year IN return and delete the PA return from your file if you choose.  Continue reading  for other options.

If you had any PA state tax withholding, you may want to file the PA return.  In that case you can still file as a full year IN resident and request a full refund from PA. You would put zero wages in the W-2 for PA and include all wages in the state section of the W-2 for IN.

If you decide to file the PA return for the 3 days, then TurboTax will include any necessary forms including the Schedule G-L. This schedule allows you to claim credit for taxes paid to another nonresident state when income is being taxed by both states.  If you file the PA and IN both would be part year resident states and this credit would not apply

You would pay tax to IN on the income earned only through 12/27 and the remainder of your earnings would be reported to PA.  Again, this proration should be done on your W-2 entry in the federal section of your return. Enter the state withholdings exactly as they appear because these are the exact amounts paid to each state.

In 2022 you will file a full year resident PA return.

Have to file PA taxes for 3 days

You would only need to file a PA part year resident return, if you had income during the three days yo lived in PA.  That' s the technical requirement.  That said, I agree with DianeW777, I wouldn't bother.  You have to go to lot of expenses and hassle to pay essentially same amount of tax (or get the same net refund) as filing a full year resident IN return.

"Part-year residents are subject to PA personal income tax on all income earned, received and realized from all sources when residents of PA. Part-year residents are also subject to PA tax on income earned, received and realized from sources within PA when they were not a PA residents. Part-year residents are not subject to PA tax on ordinary interest, dividends, gains, intangible property or gambling and lottery winnings from PA sources while a nonresident. "
