In 2023, I worked on site for a company in California. At the end of 2023, I moved to Texas to work remotely for the same company, so for the whole year of 2024, I resided and worked in Texas.
The problem is that my company forgot to change my address to Texas until sending out my first payment in 2024, which means that my firs payment in 2024 is shown as California state wages in my 2024 W2 form. And the corresponding state income tax withheld is also in my W2 form.
Since I didn't live in California at all in 2024, I should not have any California state wages and should not pay any California state tax. So how can I get the state income tax withheld back when filing my California state tax return?
Note that my company provides me a job change notice as the proof that I started working remotely in Texas since 1/1/2024, but I don't know how to use it for my California state tax return.
