Estimated tax vouchers - critical TT error

My PA 40ES form data does not show the estimated payment I put in using the walk-me-through wizard.

It shows a number it got early when I was doing my taxes, not the estimated tax I got from doing the state portion of TurboTax where I had to manually enter the information it was using to determine my estimated tax payments for 2021. The Print Preview of my state return shows 4 - PA 40ES's with a payment of $608.00 not the amount I got from doing the state tax's walk-through, $178.00. This is not an amount I can afford and that's why I did the walk through to get a better estimated payment for the four payments I'll have to make during 2021. It is critical that the payment slips show the correct amount because I use all four of them during the year to file my PA 40ES's.

If your PA estimated taxes for 2020 do not look correct: this is how to check them.

To post estimated taxes that you've already paid:

  • Start at Deductions & Credits
  • Scroll down to Estimates and other taxes
  • Select Estimated Tax Payments
  • There is a list here of various Estimated taxes that you may have paid.
  • Select State estimated taxes for 2020 (Form 1040ES)
  • Did you pay State estimated taxes for 2020? - Yes

If you are trying to calculate tax vouchers for 2021 you will have to be sure that you take your time and think about every question.  Some of them require some additional research.

If you are trying to calculate Estimated taxes for next year:

  • Start at Other Tax Situations
  • Scroll down to Other Tax Forms
  • Choose Form W-4 and Estimated Taxes
  • Continue through the interview

Estimated tax vouchers - critical TT error

Sir,

The State Estimated Taxes section configures four PA-40EZ payments but the actual printed form only show four payments of $0.00. The actual amount is about $200.00 according to the walk-through section on computing estimated taxes. I use the printed PA-40EZ forms during the year to submit my estimated tax payments to the state, (Pennsylvania).

This is the first time in over 10 years that the forms did not print correctly. I need the forms to submit my estimated tax payments.

To pay online click here. To pay by mail PA DOR says:

Mail PA-40ES (I), Declaration of Estimated Tax coupon to the department along with their check for the estimated tax amount. Taxpayers should write “2021 Estimated Tax Payment” and the last four digits of the primary taxpayer’s SSN on the memo line of their check.

See Estimated Tax Payments - PA Department of Revenue

I would recommend paying online. To calculate the tax liability, estimate your income and multiply by 3.07%. Divide by 4 to make equal payments.
