My wife and I are non residents of Wisconsin but my wife does remote work there from NY. Usually, I file a paper return there to save the $45 cost of buying an extra state from Turbotax. This year I thought I would save printing costs and buy the extra state program to efile the WI return. What a mistake! When I ran the WI program, it filled in form 1 NPR line 3 with my dividend on both columns A and B despite the 1 NPR form instructions stating Column B Wisconsin column Nonresidents – don’t fill in any amount of your dividends. This raised my WI taxes by $1300. No matter what I did I could not remove this entry. I finally had to delete the whole WI return and do it by hand on paper. Now I am out $48.99 for the WI program and sales tax. I just hope it didn't mess up my NY return, since every time I open it, I owe a different amount of money to NY. Hopefully TurboTax will fix this so that more people don't get ripped off.
