Do I need to file with California state if I did not work in California?
It depends. If you have no earned income from the state of California you are probably not required to file. However, you may need to file if you have any source of unearned income such as retirement income or the sale of property.

Do I need to file with California state if I did not work in California?
And, if you're a California resident, you need to file in California regardless of where your income was earned.
