Do I have to pay Wisconsin income tax if I bought a house in Wisconsin but I'm a Washinton state resident?

I work overseas for a Candian company and spend less than 90 days out of the year in the US. I recently bought a house in Wisconsin where my wife and child reside. The house is in both of our names. I split my time between Washington State and Wisconsin when I'm in the US. I have resided in Washington for over four years and still maintain residency there. I rent, have a Washington drivers license, and registered to vote there. Do I have to pay Wisconsin state income tax?

It depends. You may need to file a non-resident Wisconsin State Tax return if you have $2,000 or more of income from Wisconsin sources. Otherwise, if your legal residency is in Washington, and you file separately from your spouse, you would not file a state tax return.

However, if you file jointly with your spouse and your spouse legally resides in Wisconsin, you would be required to file a Wisconsin State tax return.
