Your age has nothing to do with whether you need to file tax returns. If you have taxable income you are required to file a federal and state tax return. SC does not tax Social Security but it does tax certain other kinds of retirement income.

If you are a South Carolina resident, you are generally required to file a South Carolina Income Tax return if you are required to file a federal return.
