Taxpaper was deceased as of 01/06/2022. spouse is signing as survivng spouse. The turbotax still pormpts for state id info. I said there is none and program let me proceed , but then it still requires attestation for both taxpapers...the deceased and surviving. before transmitting. How do proceed? without attestation, it says must file by mail

The surviving spouse may file a joint return for 2021. You will have to edit the information on the spouse that passed away.
To edit the spouse's information follow these steps
You will now be able to complete the tax return without having to provide any information for attestation for both taxpayers.

Thank you for your prompt response. This info had already been entered. It worked for the federal return, but not New York state. I did not file federal and state at the same time. Federal went through without any issues other than having to use 0 in agi to bypass rejected transmission. the drivers license is only requested for state filing...and the attestaion is only requested for state filing.
New York state does require the driver's license or state identification number to electronically file. If the taxpayer, does not have one, No identification should be indicated.
I gave the state id. that is not the problem.your program asks for the deceased taxpapyer to attest on the next page.
Has Turbotax looked at the fact that New York state filing process requests the deceased to attest before filing electronically? NYS dept of finance recommends not attesting since taxpayer is deceased. Unless this prompt is eliminated, the return can not be electronically filed.
