Convert tradition IRA to Roth IRA new law

under the new law Michigan passed Public Act 4 of 2023

Under Michigan's Public Act 4 of 2023, retirement income becomes fully exempt from state taxes in 2026 for those born in 1969 like me. Does this full exemption apply to Roth IRA conversions? If so, could I convert in 2026 without paying Michigan state tax on the converted amount?

The phase-out seems tied to birth year rather than age 59½—can you confirm I don't need to wait until 59½ to qualify for the state exemption? The law's details are tricky to parse.

Can i convert next yr and avoid state tax or will it be exempt later based on the wording of conversions?

Convert tradition IRA to Roth IRA new law

Michigan will not tax retirement income including a Roth conversion in 2026. Of course it will be taxed by the IRS.
