Certain states may have changed what they allow for you to deduct.
VA residents have a particular problem this year with higher taxes due to their legislature's inaction on tax changes with the Federal...resulting in higher VA taxes for many residents.
i.e. VA doesn't allow you to Itemized VA when Federal is using the Std Deduction...and because Federal doubled their STD Deduction, a hole-lotta VA residents are finding they cannot itemize VA this year...and it negatively impacts them.
VA may change their tax rules for 2018 and retroactively change them...or maybe it will all blow up and VA residents will be stuck.

IF you are in this situation, you can either file now, and amend VA later this year (IF..IF the VA legislature acts). Or wait until ~1-15 March, and if VA cahnges theri tax rules, the software "might" be modified to allow VA itemized deductions by ~ 1 April, and you could file then.
