Cannot enter 1099-G for MA state refund. Turbotax displays message "you have already entered amounts for this state or locality". I have not. How can I add this form?

Started to use Turbotax last year, but return was too complicated, so had to use  professional accountant.  Turbotax is using invalid 2016 return information to compare with current year return information. Don't know if this is relevant.

IF that 1099-G isn't there...then it could be something different.

You started a 2016 file in TX last year in tTX, but didn't finish it.

IF you started a 2017 tax file, and transferred in your 2016 file data from a an unfinished 2016 tax file...that could be your problem...you have a bunch of bogus data that transferred.

1) you really should start a new tax file from scratch...with NO 2016 file transfer.  You have a lot of data to enter manually from you outside tax file anyhow.

or

2)  You could go your current file, then to "Forms Mode" and delete the Federal "Carryover worksheet".  then back to the interview....that will allow you to enter the 1099-G for the MA refund.  But you still have to check every area carefully to make sure some bogus information didn't transfer from that unfinished 2016 file.

Certain forms transfer information over from the previous year's return.  You can delete any existing 1099-Gs by following the steps below.  You should then be able to enter your MA 1099-G.

TurboTax CD/Download

  1. Go into Forms Mode by clicking on the Forms icon in the top right of the blue bar.
  2. In the Forms in My Return list on the left, double-click on the form you wish to open and delete.  [In this case the 1099-G.]
  3. Click on the Delete Form box at the bottom of the screen.
  4. To return to the interview, click on the Step-By-Step icon in the top right of the blue bar.

TurboTax Online

  1. While in your return,  click on Tax Tools > Tools (in the black bar at the side of your screen).
  2. Under "Other helpful links" click on Delete a form.
  3. Click Delete next to the appropriate form or schedule and follow the onscreen instructions.
  4. Once you have finished deleting the desired form(s) click the Continue with My Return box (in the lower right of your screen).
