Follow these steps:

  1. Open to federal income
  2. Locate your investments and edit
  3. Please return to your federal income
  4. Select the 1099-DIV causing concern, edit
  5. Proceed through the entry screen
  6. Uncommon situations? Select a portion of these dividends is US Government Interest
  7. Enter the amount from US Government - your brokerage has the percentage in the detail pages.
  8. Select the 1099-INT causing concern, edit
  9. Proceed through and ensure  box 3 is properly filled in
  10. Go back to your state return to pick up the changes.

All states are required to exempt US Government Obligations.
