Can you e-file the M1PR for Minnesota Certificate of Rent Paid (CRP) forms?

Hi TurboTax Community,

I was a part-year resident in Minnesota from January to April and paid rent for those 4 months. I read this posting: https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-forms/file-m1pr-minnesota-property-t...

It gave info to mail the M1PR and send in the CRP from your property management company, but I e-filed. Do I have to mail this in? I know in prior years, I have mailed it, but I also didn't use TurboTax when I did that, so just checking to ensure there are no delays in my tax processing or refund!

No, you cannot efile the M1PR- Minnesota requires you to mail the M1PR for the Certificate of Rent Paid.

Yes, you do want to mail the form in as indicated in the referenced link.  TurboTax will create the form, but you are still required to mail it to:

Minnesota Property Tax Refund
 Mail Station 0020
 600 N. Robert St.
 St. Paul, MN 55145-0020

Thank you for your response. I do feel like this is a flaw in the TurboTax software because nowhere did it say that. If I hadn't asked, I wouldn't even know. Not your fault, just putting that out there for the product/IT teams to update these things.

I did some research because I too was wondering this. I found that it is possible to e-file your MN property tax/CRP. My case may be different from yours, but I feel compelled to give accurate info about this topic.

I am a renter and in the past I have always been required to mail in my CRP and M1PR. TurboTax always clearly informed me of this in prior years. This year my property tax return was e-filed and if you weren't informed to mail it in, you likely e-filed as well.

The best way to determine this is by checking your return. You can determine if your property tax refund was included in your state refund by checking Line 22 of form M1 and then working backwards to form M1RENT which includes information about your property tax refund on Line 13. I had no form M1PR this year.

TurboTax's robot had this response, which is accurate:

The M1PR (Renter's Property Tax Refund return) is a form previously used in Minnesota for renter's property tax refunds. For 2025, you no longer need to mail the M1PR separately because the renter's property tax credit is now claimed directly on the Minnesota Individual Income Tax return (Form M1).

Thank you! I did end up verifying with a tax rep with MN that all my forms have been submitted. You're right - the M1PR looks like it was replaced with the M1RENT.
