Can't Edit 2025 OH IT NRC Line 8 in Forms Mode

Per page 36 of the OH printed instructions, the amount on line 8 of form IT-NRC should be only those expenses that are

  • Paid or accrued while you were an Ohio resident; OR
  • Related to Ohio activities.

By default, TurboTax Deluxe Desktop pulls the total of ALL expenses from SA Line 44 (the only relevant line for my situation), but I need to reduce them since I was a part-year resident.  IN TY24 I was able to edit the amount on line 8 of form IT-NRC in forms mode (though without a supporting details box).  This year the software is not allowing manual edits.  This needs to be fixed.

Can't Edit 2025 OH IT NRC Line 8 in Forms Mode

Update: Just checked and in forms mode you CAN edit Line 7 (additions), just not Line 8 (subtractions.)

I'm having a similar issue. On the Ohio IT NRC, I need to be able to reduce the total Deductions from the Ohio Schedule of Adjustments (IT NRC Line 8), so that they include only amounts paid while I was an Ohio resident. In my case, I paid ACA premiums while I was NOT an Ohio resident. I included these payments as Deductions on the Ohio Schedule of Adjustments (Line 44), in order to reduce my total yearly income on Ohio IT1040 (since Ohio does not tax income used to pay ACA premiums, per the instructions for Line 1 of the Unreimbursed Medical Care Expenses Worksheet on p. 41 of the Ohio IT1040 instructions), but I need to indicate on IT NRC that these payments were made while I was a non-resident.

Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the State Taxes tab and start/revisit Ohio.
  2. Proceed through the screens until you reach the "Income Allocation" or "Part-Year Resident Allocation" section.
  3. TurboTax will show you a list of your income and deductions.
  4. Look for a screen titled "Ohio Adjustments Allocation" or "Medical/Health Care Expenses Allocation."
  5. You will see two columns: Total (Federal) and Ohio.
  6. Find the line for your ACA premiums (it may be labeled "Unreimbursed Medical Expenses" or "Schedule of Adjustments Line 44").
  7. Manually change the amount in the Ohio column to $0 (or only the amount paid while a resident).
  8. This tells the software: "This is a valid deduction for my total tax, but it didn't happen in Ohio."

In forms mode:

Form IT NRC line 8 data sources to Schedule of Adj where you can make entries on line 44. Your Col B Ohio amount should be smaller than Col A by the amount of the premiums on your 1095-A.

Thank you for your reply @AmyC . I am using the Desktop version on a Mac, and I am looking for the kind of thing you describe in your Step 6, where I can differentiate between Federal and Ohio amounts, but I cannot find such a screen or line for Unreimbursed Medical Expenses (or anything similar). I can find (and have used) allocation lines for the following Income Allocations:

• Non-Ohio State and Local Government Interest and Dividend Income

• Nonbusiness Interest and Dividend Income

• Wages, salaries, tips, guaranteed payments

• Nonbusiness Capital Gain or Loss

• Nonbusiness income (loss) from rental and royalty activity

And I do also see the following Deduction Allocations:

• Health Savings Account (this shows up on IT NRC Line 14, not line 8).

• IRA Deduction

But there is no screen or line for unreimbursed medical expenses or for Schedule of Adjustments Line 44.

Regarding the Form entry mode: There is no option to change the Column B of Line 8 directly (this is what I need to do, as you correctly state). As you say, IT NRC line 8 does source back to the Schedule of Adjustments, but there is nowhere on the Schedule of Adjustment to distinguish between Federal and Ohio amounts (there is no Column A or Column B on the Schedule of Adjustments. Column A and Column B are only on the IT NRC.

One hypothesis: I did NOT itemize deductions for my Federal taxes, so the only place the unreimbursed ACA premiums show up is on the Ohio Schedule of Adjustments Line 44 (and then incorrectly on IT NRC Line 8 Column B). There is no Federal amount/deduction. The Ohio IT NRC recognizes this, as there is no Federal column for Line 8. There is ONLY an Ohio Column B. Maybe Turbotax is getting confused because there is no Federal Deduction to allocate. Just a guess.
