Yes, based on what you stated you are eligible for the American Opportunity Credit (AOC). It doesn't matter how long you were in school. You can only claim the AOC four times. There is not time limit or limit on number of semesters in school. You're good to take the credit.
Q. It took me longer than 4 years to complete my BA; am I still eligible for the American Opportunity Tax credit (AOTC)?
A. Yes. Since you had not yet received a BA, you had Not yet finished the first 4 years of higher education at the beginning of the 2025.
Q. I have never claimed the AOTC or any other credit on my tax return before. Am I till eligible for the AOTC?
A. Probably. But, any times your parents claimed the AOTC, on your education, while you were their dependent count, for the 4 times limit, on claiming your education for the AOTC or the former Hope Credit. AOTC years do not have to be consecutive, or by the same taxpayer, but do include years the Hope credit was claimed for the same student
