Box 15 on one of my W2s has a state, but no ID number. I cannot finish filing my taxes without fixing this issue but I don't know how

I tried leaving 15 totally empty, but then TurboTax asked for the state. So I reentered the state and TurboTax keeps asking for ID number, but there is none on the W2. I cannot finish filing my taxes without it. Please help

It depends.  What may be getting reported on that line are local taxes (boxes 18-20).  If boxes 16 and 17 are blank, you will not need to enter this information under the state information line, but under the local tax information line.  You would ignore the box 15 entry, enter boxes 18-20, and when it asks for the state associated with the local tax, then you enter the state in box 15.  You will not need the employer number for this.

However, if you do have amounts in boxes 16 and 17, you will either need to get the employer ID number if you want to efile or mail-in your return.
