Employer finally sent a corrected W2 to the Alabama Department of Revenue, for the year 2018, a few weeks ago. Alabama Dept. of Revenue confirmed that they received it, however they are insisting that I fill out a State Refund form before I can get my money back. We are not talking about a small amount here.
I am in TurbTax now, attempting to file for a return. It correctly selected the non-resident tax form. I am on the screen where it asks me the name of my employer, but it only gives me an option to choose "Retired" or "None".
So now I am stuck because the application will not give me a form to enter in the amount that needs to be refunded...
Filing on the Alabama Dept. of Revenue site is not an option since it won't let me register for an account. It says my entries (social security number) is not recognized... most likely because I am not a resident and never have been.

For 2018, you must file a 2018 AL tax return. Online is only for 2019.
You should be able to get the form from AL website and do it by hand.

You are correct.
I had to go to the AL Dept. Of Revenue website and search for the 2018 Alabama Individual Income Tax Return – Nonresidents Only (40NR). I filled it out and will be mailing it. The PDF form does most of the calculations for you, however it does ask for some non-relevant information regarding my AGI and Federal Wages, before I could print it out. Also, since it was a correction, my state wages were 0. It would not allow me to print out the form while that field was 0, so I had to set it to 1, print it out and change it to 0 by hand.
Let's hope they gave me the correct mailing address and let's hope they will actually let me check on the status of my return.
