A ct resident but worked in rye new york. I only had a part time job rye ny and why is the total of my wages including the ones in CT on the wages on ny state return?

NY doesn't tax all of your income, because you don't live there. But to determine your tax, they do pretend that all of your income is taxable in New York, and then prorate the tax to the income earned in New York. The New York return does make it look like all of the income is being taxed, but lines 45 and 46 on the IT-203 form will show the prorate.
