2025 Windows Desktop software has erroneous e-file counter

We have 5 taxpayers in our family and I file all their taxes. We usually e-file Federal and wait for it to be accepted before e-filing state.

This year, everything proceeded smoothly for the first four returns. For the fifth one, the Federal worked fine but the State gave an error message that we had exceeded the max count of 5 for the individual license.  And this after charging the credit card $25.

Any ideas on how to get past this and e-file? Customer Support hasn't been able to help.

Customer Support should be able to verify how many actual Federal and State returns you have Efiled,  and reset your counter.  Could there be another reason you can't Efile your state return?

They said they were unable to access that information and that I should paper file which I did. I requested a refund of the $25 e-filing fee but am not optimistic that I will get it back and might dispute the charge with my credit card issuer.

    What a mess!
