On the 2025 Michigan Homestead Property Tax Credit Claim, TurboTax entered the last part of my 9 digit zip code (2-1154 instead of 48442).
I noticed this when I viewed a draft before submitting. This incorrect zip code did not trigger a review, so how can I go about correcting this?
I’ve verified in the My Info section of TurboTax online that my full zip code there is correct. I tried re-entering my zip code there to see if it would correct itself, but it hasn’t.
Please advise. Thank you!!

If you have already submitted your return for e-file, there isn't any way to change the submission. You will just need to wait to see if the Michigan Department of Treasury has any questions on your tax filing. They may end up accepting it as is, but they may also contact you to get corrected information. For now, all you can do is sit tight and wait until your return is processed.
I have not filed yet. I’d like to get it corrected so I can file electronically.
I am able to generate a MI-1040CR Homestead Property Tax Credit Claim form. It reports the correct US Postal Service Zip+4 nine-digit zip code that was pulled from the My Info information.
Consider running through the Michigan state income tax return entries in TurboTax Online. The entries may be found at the screen Homestead Property Tax Credit. Or you may Delete a form under Tax Tools and Tools and run again through the Homestead Property Tax Credit screens.
Michigan Homestead Property Tax Credit may be found here.
The Homestead Property Tax Credit is a tax credit for qualified Michigan homeowners and renters, which helps to pay some of the property taxes homeowners or renters have been billed.
I have been doing this online. And I have deleted the form and ran thru it again. For that particular form it is only supposed to pull in the 5 digit zip code and it is not. It’s pulling in the last digit then a hyphen and the + 4 digits.
Are you saying that you tried this with the online version? And it pulled in the complete zip code with the plus 4???
Used TurboTax Desktop.
Oh, well, I don’t have the desktop version; I had already paid for the deluxe online.
I suggest you enter only the five digit zip code in the "My Info" section.
Already did that. TurboTax online automatically adds the plus 4, no matter how many times I try to change it just the 5 digit zip code. Tried deleting it all and it still won't work correctly for that MI Homestead Property Tax credit form.
Are you also filing MI-1040 and if yes, how is your zip code formatted on that form?
Additionally, did you Clear Cookies and Cache?
Yes, on the MI-1040 (using online TurboTax), the zip code is formatted as the full zip code: 48442-1154. So it is formatted correctly there, but not on the MI Homestead Property Tax Credit Claim form (MI 1040CR).
Meant to also say I cleared the cookies and cache after clearing the Homestead Credit form and starting over.
Things should work properly, but I am going to say that since Form MI-1040CR is being filed with your MI-1040, I would not be concerned that the zip code for the MI-1040CR is not correct. I would go ahead and file.
While yes, things should work properly, I am not filing it as-is, because there is another similar question/thread where the person submitted their tax return electronically and the MI one was flagged for manual review. I.e., it did not work properly as-is. It's an error that TurboTax needs to fix and hasn't.
AND... calling TurboTax customer service currently has me absolutely infuriated. I just waited 30 minutes on the line to speak to someone, and after explaining the situation the customer service rep said he was going to put me on hold to look into that... AND HE HUNG UP ON ME... despite confirming my phone number before this...presumably so he can reach me if we get disconnected. And does he call me back after "accidentally" hanging up on me? NOoooooo... and trying to get help in this forum apparently only goes so far. So I'll be sitting on the phone for another half hour to hopefully reach a customer service rep who actually wants to do their job... and not hang up on me.
Clearly it's not an easy answer/solution... but submitting multiple messages here, calling 2 days ago and having my situation documented and being told I'd receive an email in 24-48 hours with "what I should do next and what was done to correct this", and not receiving that email, so I call there to follow up... and I'm hung up on when the guy said he would put me on hold to look into it... literally said "let me go ahead and do that"... and CLICK... disconnected.
If there's anything you can do to look into this with TurboTax in terms of if they are actually looking into FIXING this programming issue, it would be greatly appreciated. Please advise. Thanks.
