Question

Why does Minnesota from M1M, Line 12. Turbotax worksheet not match instructions from revenue.state.mn.us?

TurboTax worksheet has 26 lines.  Minnesota Dept of Revenue site has 20 lines.  End result is different adjustement to Social Security adjustment.  Which is correct?

LINE 19 in TurboTax Social Security Subtraction Smart Worksheet CALCULATES INCORRECTLY!   I call Turbo Tax customer service to get help on this one (800-446-8848).  (This worksheet is used to calculate Line 12 on the Minnesota state M1M form.)  It was subtracting a larger number from a smaller one and getting a positive result instead of a negative.  If line 19 is negative, line 20 should be 0.  HERE'S THE FIX:  We manually calculated the number for worksheet line 19, overrode the the result and the rest of it cascaded down ending with the same result as when I manually calculated it from the Mn State Revenue website.  It's still 26 steps instead of 20 but the end result is now correct.   Hope this helps someone else out there.

Please help....I just e-filed my taxes and was looking over the PDF and noticed there was NOT a M1M form attached.  I should have received the minnesota social security subtraction of $5290 for a married couple but I don't see it anywhere.....what am I missing?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks.

Is it possible that you have a high income? The subtraction for Social Security is based on a worksheet for line 12 on form M1M. According to this memo from the MN House Research group, the subtraction starts to phase out once your FAGI gets too high (see second page).

Of course, we in the Community cannot see your private tax data, so we have no idea what happened to your return.

Since you have filed on time, you can now spend a week or two or three researching the issue and deciding if you want to file an amended state return.
