What is a double tax when I work in one state and live in another

A double tax would be when you pay taxes on the same income.  So if you earned $50,000 working in PA while living in NY, both states would tax that $50,000.  PA would tax it as a nonresident while NY would tax it as a resident.  

NY would ask how much you paid in taxes to PA and then give you a credit for some or all of the taxes you paid to PA
