Unable to E-File Wisconsin State Return With TurboTax Business 2025 - INTUIT TURBOTAX TEAM NEEDS TO UPDATE!!!

This has been a recurring problem every year and Wisconsin requires e-filing.
What is worse this year:  now Turbo Tax Business will not e-file the Federal return until the final review of the Wisconsin return is also completed.  And the final review of the Wisconsin return keeps looping back even though the information is correct.  I'm stuck in this never-ending loop and can't e-file either the Federal or the State tax returns.  INTUIT TURBOTAX TEAM NEEDS TO IMPLEMENT A FIX ASAP.

Anyone else having this same problem?  Likely not just Wisconsin.

Anyone aware of any workarounds through the software?

YES!  They said the rejected state return was due to updates involving not taxing qualified pension and an update was released 2/13/2026.  Well, I made sure TT was updated, reviewed the return and resubmitted,  for free fortunately, but then shortly after received another rejection email.  They need to FIX THIS NOW.

Same thing happened to me with Premier. When will this be fixed?!

There was an update on February 13, 2026, for a recent change to Wisconsin's retirement income rules. Please log in on or after that date and resubmit your return. (Online versions update automatically.)

  1. If you have no retirement income OR all of your retirement income is from qualified plans -- like a 401(k), 403(b), IRA, or government pension -- you can simply review and resubmit. Most workplace retirement plans are qualified.
  2. If you have retirement income from a non-qualified plan (uncommon), go to Retirement Benefits Adjustments and follow the steps to update your amounts before resubmitting.

This still does not work.  My Wisconsin Tax e-file was rejected so I updated my TurboTax on 18FEB2025 and resubmitted that day. It was rejected again on 20FEB2025 and I received a message that there will be a new update on 26FEB2025 and to log after that to resubmit.  This appears to be a major failure from Intuit TurboTax with a bunch of untruths to buy them time.  I have been a TurboTax customer for decades but unless I get some honest information on what is going on with TurboTax, I will be looking at other products next year.

Unfortunately, the 2/26/2026 "update" didn't work either, and my WI return has again been reject twice this morning (2/26/2026). Pretty frustrating, isn't it? Hard to imaging Intuit would allow this to happen with no apology. Mike O'Brien

I was finally able to submit both the Federal and the WI State Returns.  Don't know exactly how I fixed the problem, but tried these things and it eventually worked:  Updated the file code name; made sure I clicked on the filing questions properly, and went through the Federal and State Reviews multiple times until it transmitted.  My only advice is to review the error codes when not accepted and keep trying.  Too bad Intuit can't make these types of returns more user friendly to help avoid this frustration for so many people.

I tried all of what ddkojwimi suggested  but WI return rejected

Actually, it's understandable that TurboTax wouldn't get too exercised about a few of us Cheesehead/Dairyman types because TurboTax is a pretty large operation according to Google's AI: "More than 100 million customers worldwide have used Intuit TurboTax, making it the most popular tax preparation software. In the U.S., it holds a 60% market share, with the platform processing 45 million tax returns in fiscal year 2023. A 2024 survey showed that 44% of Americans planned to use H&R Block or TurboTax, with 35% specifically choosing TurboTax." The $326 I paid them really just isn't enough for concern. Even if there were over 4 million of us (like there were in the class action that in 2022 recovered a $141 million settlement from Intuit/TurboTax for a case alleging deceptive practices), that probably wouldn't secure their lasting attention. I am having the same issue with turbotax deluxe. The rejection email tells me to start up turbotax again and it will walk me through fixing any errors in relation to Wisconsin's retirement income. I downloaded an update today, restarted and tried again. 4 times over the course of the day and it still isn't working. I've never had this issue before. Turbotax needs to get with it and fix this issue! Turbotax won't let me file be mail as a option.

Marguerite - I assume you are using the desktop version of TurboTax because the online version I am using receives no "updates" as the online version supposedly updates automatically. The reason I mention that is I have been assured by TurboTax people (famous last words) that I will be able to print my Wisconsin return and file it by mail if TurboTax just can't get this online efile version working. If you are using the desktop version, maybe you are correct that you can't simply abandon the efile version and file by mail. Hopefully, I won't be learning down the road that onliners also can't print and file their rejected WI return. If you are using the online version where you sign into the TurboTax website to complete you return (rather than using a program loaded on your computer), you should be able to file manually if this whole project goes south for us Cheeseheads. Good luck. Mike O'Brien

Same issue failed twice.  This last time I waited until 2/26, ran the update, double checked - no additional updates.   Rechecked for any errors, submitted ...  Fail again.

At first turbotax would not even import last years tax file because of a software bug.

Frustrating that I paid nearly $100 for software that doesn't work.

I am also trying to file WI state, and failing

Before bed last night I filed my WI return for the 7th time, and it was finally accepted at 2:19 CST. So it looks like TurboTax finally got their WI software fixed. I'm guessing it will work for all of us now because I did absolutely nothing by way of further checking any details of the return. I just pushed on through the software as quickly as possible, pressing "continue," and this time the filing finally worked. Regards, Mike O'Brien

Yes, I have same problem with WI e file. I did get federal to go. State says it needed name and address filled from federal. It asked me for it when doing the WI step process, didn't import from fed. So when I got to end caught in loop asking me for my name and address that shows in the fields requested, LAST, FIRST, SS ADDRESS. round and round we go. not filing electronically.

Is it possible to delete the WI data and restart as complete new blank? Without being required to purchase, and then that one may not work either.

Fresh201 - I wouldn't start over until you have attempted to file again after the March 26 promised update, and I would even give it a couple more days as the February update kicked in about a day late. Also, if your federal return was accepted, I think you are dealing with a TurboTax glitch like I (and many other people) had with the Wisconsin/TurboTax system back in February. It is almost certainly the fault of TurboTax, not your fault. So I suspect it will work after March 26. Regards, Mike O'Brien

It's March 26th. I tried today, still getting the message that it requires software update, try again on 26th or after.

What's worse, my state refund figure has gone from 900ish to 400ish.

I got an so-called expert to call me, she called me back, addressing me with the wrong name. Didn't seem to have a clue of what happened. Put me on hold for 10 mins then disconnected me, and closed the case.
