Hello, NC state tax says "part-year resident" instead of "non-resident" under "Status of your state returns page" even though I mentioned I made income there but never lived there. NY says part year resident instead of full year resident. I worked in NC remotely less than 183 days. FYI my W2 has NC instead of NY as the address incorrectly since I never updated it with my employer. On the Federal my info page, I have NC as my address since that is my current address and NY as my resident state but IL and NC as extra income states ( I have rental property in IL but I never lived there). I already tried deleting the NY and NC returns and created the NC one again, still says part year resident for NC.

1. How do I fix it to say non-resident instead of part-year resident? I am filing the NC return to allocate the work I did remotely from NC on the W2.

2. I'm filing IL nonresident, then NC non-resident then NY resident. Is that correct?

When you first start the North Carolina return in TurboTax, it asks you to verify your North Carolina state residency status.

    1. On the page that says Did you have more than one state of residence in 2025? click NO
    2. It will then ask What was your state of residence in 2025? and you can indicate that you made money in North Carolina last year, but never lived there. (Here the "never lived there" refers to having domicile, or being a state resident).

This will trigger the nonresident return.

Yes, your ordering of Illinois, North Carolina, then New York is correct.
