Maryland took our tax return said we owed taxes for maryland for 2019 and 2020

We were supposed to get a refund from MD and MD finally sent us a letter stating we owe taxes for 2019 and 2020. How do we fight this and why7 did it happen.? We paid extra to make sure the taxes were completed correctly.

No one at TurboTax knows why your MD refund was seized by the state. The state never shares any information with TurboTax after you file your return. Did you make the mistake of thinking a state tax due could be paid from a federal refund in some previous year? We see users make that error sometimes---they think the state will be paid from a federal refund and that is impossible, so the state tax remains unpaid. Or did you owe child support, traffic fines, etc. in your state?

Only the state can tell you why they took your refund.
