I'm wondering why I owe Oregon taxes when I resided in Oregon while I worked, someone please explain.

You owe Oregon income taxes because you didn't have enough Oregon income taxes withheld from your pay.

 

Without examining your return (we can't see it in this forum), it's impossible to say exactly what caused you to owe state taxes. However, there's a high probability that at least one reason is listed in the FAQ below.

I recommend you do a line by line comparison of last year's income tax return to this year's income tax return, to see what changed.

 

If you're still working on your return, those numbers will likely change as you enter more items. Your tax due amount may even be replaced by a tax refund by the time you finish doing your taxes.

Everybody who resides in OR, while they worked, owes OR taxes on the income they received, regardless of where that income came from.

 

Did you work in WA, where they don't have an income tax? That only means WA residents don't pay any state tax.  All others pay state tax to their residence state (OR in your case).
