Question

I live in one state but work completely in another. Does anyone know why TurboTax continue to say I earned money in both states? I only made money in the state I work in, not live in

Income from all sources is taxed by your state of residence.  You complete the nonresident state and then the resident state tax return.  You get credit on your resident state tax return for taxes paid in the nonresident state.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for working in one state and living in another - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/returns-and-forms/help/when-would-i-have-to-file-returns-in-more-than-one-state/01/25821

Turbotax tends to use the term "earned" rather than received.  For tax purposes you received taxable income, while a resident of your home state.

The general rule for your situation is as described by DoninGA.  But, you should identify the two states as there are other possible rules involved.
