So my W-2’s show that for roughly the first two months of 2017, my income was taxed by the state of Nebraska. I am working with my company to get a new W-2 issued but how do I get the money back that Nebraska took from my paychecks?
You say you are you working with your company to get a new W2, so do you think it is wrong? If you think you never paid Nebraska, then there would be no tax paid to get back. If you did have tax withheld and paid to the state of Nebraska, then the W2 would not need to be corrected. You do need to be clear with your employer about whether Nebraska tax was withheld or not before you file a return. You would need to file a non-resident Nebraska state tax return to get the tax back.
