Question

hi there, I have ties to my family home in Illinois, but I live and work in the UK, pay taxes here - do I file as a Illinois resident?

If you do not physically live or work in IL then you do not file an IL tax return.   If you are a U.S. citizen you are required to file a federal return that reports all of your worldwide income.
