Ive called the local dmv and the number and letter are correct. So it might be the soft wear

It depends. Many tax software programs, like TurboTax, need the first three letters of the number for the first screen for ‌verification purposes.If you type the full 8 or 10 characters into a field only expecting three, it'll return an "Invalid" or "Incorrect Format" error.

To correct, enter the first three characters (letters and numbers) and see if the error clears.
