Question

CA resident w/ no IN-source income (remote work). Removed “double-taxed income,” but TurboTax still shows CA credit from old value. How to reset Schedule S?

I’m a full-year California resident who worked entirely remotely and had no Indiana-source income, only Indiana withholding that should be refunded on a nonresident return. In TurboTax, I originally entered income as taxed by Indiana in the CA “Other State Tax Credit” section, but corrected it to $0 once I realized it wasn’t actually double-taxed. The issue is that TurboTax is not updating after this correction—it continues to carry the old amount into Schedule S and applies a California credit anyway. My refund does not change at all after fixing the inputs, which suggests the value is being cached or stuck somewhere in the calculation. This appears to be a software bug, as the forms are not recalculating based on the updated, correct entries. I also tried restarting my entire CA return with no luck. I have already paid and now I am stuck

Delete the Form:

  1. While in your return, select Tax Tools from the left menu, then Tools.
  2. In the pop-up window, select Delete a form.
  3. Scroll through the list of California forms and find Schedule S (Other State Tax Credit).
  4. Select Delete next to it and confirm.
  5. Go back to the California state interview. The "stuck" credit should now be gone.
