CA requires those using VBTA 2018 (to claim their military spouse's state residence) to mark in red "VBTA" at the top of the CA return. Can I still e-file with TurboTax?
The Veteran's Benefits and Transition Act of 2018 allows spouses of military members to claim the military member's state of residence (domicile) for the purpose of filing taxes. In California, according to FTB publication 1032, the spouse must write in red ink "VBTA" at the top of the state tax return to indicate that the spouse is using VBTA 2018 to claim their spouse's domicile state as their own domicile state for tax filing purposes. Can my spouse and I still e-file our California state return if she is using VBTA? Does TurboTax print a red "VBTA" on the return before e-file?
My spouse and I will both be using Washington State as our state of residence, but I am stationed in California right now.
