Being prompted to fill out old Certificate of Rent Paid Worksheet

When reviewing my State return, I am being prompted to fill in a missing value on the Minnesota Certificate of Rent Paid Worksheet. However, I did not rent last year and shouldn't need this form at all. It looks like it's pre-populating values from my past year's return's CRP form. How do I get rid of this worksheet entirely, as it is not applicable for me this tax year?

I made sure I unchecked the option that was prechecked and said “You rented a home in 2024 and received (or will receive) a CRP from your landlord” when it came up.

Thanks!

You should go over your Minnesota return to make sure that you answered everything correctly.

  1. When you start your Minnesota return, one of the first questions is about your living situation.  Make sure it isn't marked that you rented a home.
  2. Continue the questions until you get to the Other Minnesota Credits screen.  Make sure that the Renter's Credit isn't selected.

No other screens about the renter's credit should come up.  See the images below for your reference as you enter the information on your return:

Thanks for taking a look at this @LeticiaF1 . I've double checked that both of those are unchecked, however I am still being prompted to fix the worksheet when reviewing.

If that didn't work, you will have to delete your state return in TurboTax Online and start it again. To do this:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Select State Taxes from Tax Home.
  3. On the Status of your state returns screen
  4. Select the trashcan icon next to your state
  5. Select Delete
  6. Select Start Over next to your state return on the Status of your state returns screen

I'm having this same issue currently, it is unresolved. I am not filing with paper or paying for an upgrade. I need a resolution for this.

I'm having the same issue too! I didn't have to fill one out for 2024. Didn't opt in for rent then or now, so I don't understand why I keep getting prompted even when I've made sure it's unchecked when I go through my taxes.

Let’s delete the forms, close the return, clear any stuck data and  finish up.

First, delete forms

Online:

  1. Open your return and select Tax Tools from the left-side menu.
  2. Select Tools.
  3. In the pop-up window, select Delete a form.
  4. Review the list for any of the following Minnesota forms:
    • Schedule M1RENT (this is the new form for the Renter's Credit starting in 2024/2025).
    • CRP Worksheet (or Property Owner Smart Worksheet).
    • Form M1PR (the old Property Tax Refund form).
  5. Click Delete next to these forms and confirm.

Desktop: switch to forms mode and delete

Second, close return

Third, stuck data removed

Online version:

Log out of your return and try one or more of the following:

There are 2 documents in my documents tab, both are W2s. I have deleted all of my information and restarted the whole process 3 times. The app is auto-generating a CRP for a property I haven't lived at in over 3 years. I did not select any boxes stating I am a renter or filing for renter's credit. The app will not allow me to file my taxes without this CRP form that I couldn't even edit to make accurate if I did have a CRP to file this year. This is ridiculous. Fix it.

If you are on the Online version, the "Restart" button often fails to clear "State" forms like the CRP. You have to manually excise it from the form list:

  1. Open your return and click Tax Tools in the left-hand menu.
  2. Select Tools.
  3. In the pop-up window, select Delete a form.
  4. Scroll through the list until you find the CRP Worksheet (it will likely be under the Minnesota state section).
  5. Click Delete next to it and confirm.
  6. Crucial Step: Look for a form called "State Information Worksheet" or "Minnesota Information Worksheet." If you see it, delete that too. This is often where the "Renter" flag is hidden.
  7. Log out and back in again to change the form.

If you are using the software, go to the forms mode to locate each form.  once these are located, you will select these one at a time.  Wehn the form appears on your screen, press delete at the bottom to remove the form(s).
