If I'm labeled a "Commission Stylist" and required to give the salon owner half of my income, can I write off the income I gave her as a "commission" expense?

I am not an employee and received a 1099. The owner pays for all advertising and half of the products I use. I am required to give her 1/2 of my income on all clients (not just new leads).

You can’t deduct that amount since you never received it.

Is the 1099NEC for the total or just your half?  If the 1099NEC is  for the total before the commission then you can deduct it.
