For the purposes of your tax return, "self-employed" and "independent contractor" mean the same thing.
If you have self-employment income for which you will pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare, you will need to use online Premium software or any version of the desktop software download so that you can prepare a Schedule C for your business expenses.

A Self-Employed individual is the same as an independent contractor. You will include your Data Entry income on Schedule C.
To enter your self-employment income select the following:

The income and expenses as an independent contractor will be reported on Schedule C which is part of your overall tax return. This also means you will be subject to the 15.3% SE Tax. If you did not pay Self Employment (SE) Taxes in 2025, and if you plan to do this again in 2026, it may be a good idea to make estimated quarterly payments to avoid penalties.
